Asana is a Sanskrit word translated to mean a pose. Basically, Asana yoga just means striking a yoga pose. Studies have shown that yoga is highly beneficial in weight loss. It’s one of the ways you can burn more calories, and challenge your mind at the same time. There are various postures recommended for Asanas yoga if you want to shed off some pounds. You should repeat each pose twice to achieve maximum body strength and flexibility.
If you sit in front of a computer all day, this is one of the ways you can stretch your hips. With your front knee close to 90 degrees, raise your arms up and hold for about thirty seconds. You can them tilt them backward or to your sides then backward. This also allows you to stretch your lower back.
Ardha Navasana (Half Boat Pose)
This pose works directly on your tummy, making it perfect for weight loss. With your alms on the ground, raise your legs. Once stable, you can now raise your arms and have them parallel to the ground and hold for thirty seconds. You can also lean back a little and move your knees away from you to strike a more involving pose.
Vasisthasana (Side Plank)
Planks are great for weight loss as they also focus on your abs. Assume the natural plank pose, with your palms down on your mat. Try tilting your feet to the left. The outer part of your right foot should be touching the floor, with the left foot on the right one. Your weight should be on your right hand, allowing you to remove your left one off the ground and straight up to the ceiling. Ensure that your hips and shoulders are directly in line with each other as opposed to leaning either backward or forwards.
Prasarita Padottanasana (Wide-Legged Forward Bend)
Start by spreading your feet about three or four feet apart. You should bend at the hips, while still maintaining a straight back and hold for about five to six breaths. When done right, you will experience an intense stretch in your hamstrings.
